About
This album by violinist Christian Tetzlaff and cellist Tanja Tetzlaff together with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin conducted by Paavo Järvi, is dedicated in the memory of their longtime artistic partner, pianist Lars Vogt (1970–2022). At the heart of this album is Brahms, one of Lars Vogt’s favourite composers, and his late orchestral masterpiece, the Double Concerto. Brahms himself had admired one of Viotti’s violin concertos so much that he included material from the violin concerto into his work. With Christian Tetzlaff’s recording of the violin concerto, this album finally brings these two works together. Also included is Dvorák’s beautiful Silent Woods for cello and orchestra, a work by another composer that was very close to Lars Vogt’s heart.

Performance ***** Recording *****
“… Brother-and-sister team Christian and Tanja Tetzlaff are ideal soloists, and they’re splendidly supported by the Deutsches Symphonic Orchester under Paavo Järvi…”
Editor’s Choice – Orchestral Section
“… Terrific disc, and the best kind of tribute from three exceptional musicians to one of their own.”
International Classical Music Award 2024 Nomination in the Concertos category
“… Few albums in recent memory guide the listener on such a satisfyingly emotional journey. Ondine’s engineering is exemplary, capturing just enough room ambiance to warm the sound without sacrificing clarity, with natural (never spotlighted) integration of the soloists in the overall sound – strongly recommended.”
Sound 9 Booklet 10 Repertoire 10 Interpretation 10
“… This very beautiful album benefits from the emotional investment of the musicians of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, who share the commitment of the soloists and that of the other friend of the deceased, Paavo Järvi. This provides frank and generous leadership, commensurate with the circumstances.”
